Posted April 24, 2017

Marketing success doesn’t always come easy and if you’re reading this wondering why your marketing isn’t working then you’re definitely not alone. We have met many business owners over the last 2.5 years through our workshops, events and consulting and have found ourselves answering some very common questions time after time.

Here are the 10 most common questions we get asked all the time!

I am doing all this marketing but I don’t think its working – what am I doing wrong?

The first step to a successful campaign is the willingness to do it – so you have definitely got that right. 9 times out of 10 the reason that things aren’t working is because there is no strategy and no objectives outlined to actually measure any results.

Why doesn’t anyone like my posts on Facebook?

Facebook is all about reach and engagement – they go hand in hand. Content that isn’t interesting, too much promotion or posting anything just for the sake of posting will harm your chances of being seen by your followers. Post content that is engaging and relevant to your target audience with a split of 80% value and 20% promotion.

How do I get more followers on Instagram?

Instagram is pretty straightforward; you need compelling images and a hashtag strategy. That’s right, you must hashtag otherwise no one other than your current followers will be able to see your post. Using appropriate hashtags for your industry and audience will attract new followers.

How much time should I be spending on social media each week?

We normally laugh at this and then answer with “You mean everyday?” Yep…you should be monitoring social media daily. Posting, checking, replying to comments, rewteeting where necessary (if you’re on twitter) etc. Generally speaking, if your social media calendar is planned out and all posts scheduled, you could spend up to an hour a day (split up over the course of the day and night).

Should I create accounts on all social media channels?

No – only set up your business on the platforms that your target audience is using. Remember you need to be able to effectively use each platform so don’t spread yourself to thin and try do it all.

How do I know whether my website is working for me?

Setup and install Google Analytics and take a YouTube tutorial about how to use it. It will tell you everything you need to know about your websites performance and what people are doing!

Do you build websites at Gloss?

Unfortunately no, we don’t build websites BUT we know some pretty great developers so let us know if you need contact details ☺

What is a reasonable marketing budget?

There is no correct amount of money that you should be spending on marketing, the key takeaway here is that you set a budget. It doesn’t matter whether you have $500 or $10000, you need to set a budget and stick to it.

What is a Persona?

Normally, when we meet with people and discuss marketing, we always ask about their target audience. Some people know their target audience others think it’s everyone. Firstly, define who your target audience is and then create personas. A persona is a representation of a person who would be your ideal client. You can have multiple persona’s as your may have a few target audiences.

How much will it cost for you to do all the marketing for me?

This question usually comes at the end of a consulting meeting or a workshop. Setting up and executing a successful campaign is quite involved and it can be a little daunting, We often get asked whether we can do all of the marketing for a business. Of course, we are happy to help but the answer to how much it will cost will depend on what we do. If you do want to discuss a cost to have us manage your marketing please get in contact with us!

We have a Facebook Marketing Workshop coming up next month in Perth and Bunbury and would love to see you there and go through any other questions you have!
